Healthy Meal suggestions for DP Cheesesteaks

They have a cheese steak made with bleu cheese! Are you listening to me!? Gracious me, I'm getting all flustered. I'm just saying that if you moved an ordinary sandwich to the far end of a checkerboard and shouted "King Me!", something delicate yet noble like the bleu cheese steak might appear. The "Whiz Steak" is also a happy-factory, manufacturing delight in the convenience of your mouth. Oh, and I nearly forgot the Garlic Cheese steak. Heavens to Betsy! I'm also partial to the pastrami, which is quite solid (when kept below 611 degrees Fahrenheit). If pressed for a response, I'd have to say my favorite thing about their sandwiches is the taste.

We really enjoyed our food at DP Cheesesteaks, but we thought that everything was rather pricey. (We wiped out a $25 gift card in one visit.) The atmosphere was nothing special, but did I mention that we really liked the food?

For a Utah cheesesteak DPs isnt too bad. I have read cheesesteak reviews on different sites out here (Utah) and a lot of people use Pats and Jenos steaks in Philly as a comparison. I have to laugh because the only people who go to Pats or Jenos in Philly are tourists or the drunks who were up partying all night and those are the only cheesestak places open 24/7. They are the McDonalds of the cheesesteak retailers in Philly. You need to go into the mom and pop places in the neighborhoods to get the best cheesesteaks. Does Taco Bell have the best mexican food in Utah? Of course not. Sorry I got off track on my review, DP steaks are a good sandwich. It isnt a good authentic cheesesteak but it is still flavorful. The meat isnt quite right, it is more like roastbeef instead of ribeye. I have been searching Utah for the best cheesesteak since I moved here from back east 2 years ago. Moochies wasnt bad when I first got out here but have really been lousy the last 3 times I went there and I vowed never to go back. So far the best I have found ( I am always open to suggestions) is a new place in Orem called CheeZsteaks. His menu needs some tweaking but he has the meat, cheese and roll are pretty darn close to a authentic cheesesteak and that is what a good cheesesteak is all about, all the toppings and condiments used are just a distraction of what a cheesesteak should be.

Cheese Wiz! Finally a place that uses whiz on their cheesesteaks. It is not hard to make a decent sandwhich and this place does a nice job. All these other places around the valley try to put peppers, mayo or even mushrooms on it. If you are going to call it a Philly Steak stick with the basics like DP does. The best part about this place is they sell Tasty Cakes, next they need to get some Herrs Chips in and they are set.

"Yay, I am a fan", but I have a couple nagging issues. I love this place and I really don't venture anywhere else when I crave a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. In fact, I have eaten at Geno's, Jim's and Pat's in the city of brother love, Philadelphia. Having done so, I would rank DP Cheesesteaks as the 2nd best Cheesesteak I have ever had! What is #1? Mama's Pizzeria in the Philly suburb of Bala Cynwyd. Well, as you can imagine, Bala Cynwyd is too far to travel so I often find myself (at least once a week) scarfing down a sandwich at the American Fork establishment of DP Cheesesteaks. Bone #1 - I typically order a traditional 9" without onions (sometime I will leave the onions on) and add garlic spread. Why am I charged for every little extra item I add such as garlic spread when I am not credited for giving back the damn onions?! Seems like simple logic to me! If I order a sandwich without tomatos, I am not credited $.29, but if I add onions to the same sandwich, you can bet dollars to donuts they will charge me $.29! It makes no sense. I know it seems trivial, but it is kind of insulting and wrong. Charging for extra items is not the issue, but charging for extra items on the same sandwich that will have items removed seems wrong. Fix this, DP! I know you are reading. Bone #2 - What the hell is going on with that pathetic excuse for a Pastrami sandwich you serve?! When you think of a pastrami sandwich, you immediately envision a mound of pastrami. I cannot think of two places that do not serve their pastrami sandwiches in this manner, but I can think of one! DP Cheesesteaks! The two times I have strayed from my usual choice of a traditional and venture towards a pastrami, I have literally been disappointed by receiving 2 slices of pastrami...one on each side of the roll. Sad. Very sad. Probably more healthy, but still sad. Very sad. The roll becomes the star immediately because you can't taste, let alone barely see, the pastrami! Either man up and load it up with the good stuff or take it off the menu. With those two bones addressed, let me reiterate how much I love this place. My suggestion is to get the traditional with garlic spread (you will pay). This sandwich is simply amazing and it is the garlic spread that puts it above those eateries that are world famous for their cheesesteaks. If you have never been to DP Cheesesteaks, head there now. DO IT! You will not regret it. While you are there, enjoy the fast service, Birch Beer and snack cakes. You will think you are in Philly...with the exception of the rudeness! Eat up!

Even if this food was nasty, it'd get at least a 3 for offering CheezeWhiz.

Whiz Steak, ok!?! order the Whiz Steak and you will be good. my memory of what a cheesesteak was like in Philadelphia has faded (you may note this as a recurring theme), but what I do remember is that a cheesesteak has Cheez Whiz on it. also, as crazy as this may sound, there is a reason that a cheesesteak has Cheez Whiz on it. that reason is that Cheez Whiz + hot off the grill steak tastes awesome. so as long as you aren't one of those highfalutin people that is too good for Cheez Whiz and instead insists on something fancy like Provolone or American, you should enjoy DP Cheesesteaks. now for the negatives: - they only have one register, which means the line can get crazy long at lunch time. - while they import a variety of Tastykakes from PA, they do not have the Tastykake pies, which consistently disappoints me. - ice comes out of the ice dispenser way too fast. - the name DP Cheesesteaks is kind of creepy.

The best cheesesteak sandwich I've ever tasted. I like the mushroom peppersteak. The meat is quality, not some frozen lunchmeat and the mushrooms are fresh not canned. Not sure if this is authentic, but it is dang good eats : )

Quick. Lightning fast service. Whiz steak was ok. Might come back but hard to justify with the Italian Place closer.

I have eaten at both Pat's and Gino's in Philly within the past year. Generally the fist place I go after landing. Both offer out of this world cheesesteaks. I'm very happy to report the cheesesteaks in DP Cheesesteaks are every bit as good. Wonderful selection of cheesesteaks....haven't had them all because it's hard to get past some of my favorites. The simplest on the menu...The Whiz Steak is great. To top it off, they also have Coke Zero....just when I thought it couldn't get any better.
